Nigerian rapper Edward Oghale Oghenerobor popularly known as Wapseddy has urged the Nigerian Government to rethink its decision to suspend the operations of microblogging site Twitter in the country.
This is coming after Twitter deleted a post by the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, saying the tweet violated its “abusive behavior” policy.
Consequently, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension of Twitter on Friday, citing the “persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
Reacting to the news, Wapseddy said a lot of Nigerian youths make their living on the popular platform and many businesses are crumbling already.
“Honestly, I find it awkward that our government can make such a decision in this time of age, it is unbelievable. Twitter is the new shop for many Nigerians.
“Many businesses are affected by that decision, and I think the government is always looking for a means to frustrate progressive Nigerians.
The “Fagbana” crooner, however, called on the government to have a rethink on the decision.
“I wish the government can see beyond this and have a rethink that they goofed. Many youths will be rendered jobless with that move.
“Even, we artistes, the platform is very important to us,” he added.
