My agenda for Lagos, by LP candidate

The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has promised to embark on the empowerment of youths and other social engagement programmes to take their attention from thuggery and crime, if he becomes the chief executive of the state next year.

Rhodes-Vivour added that he will push for policies that will take the youths from the streets and positively engage them in a skills acquisition programme to take the State to the next level.

The LP candidate made the pledge at a meeting with party representatives in Lagos recently. He said he will sit with youths to design a programme that will make them useful to their generation in the right skills area as part of the productive segment of the State’s population.
He promised to work as a servant leader by implementing people-oriented programmes and by being accountable to the people if given a chance to govern the state.

Rhodes-Vivour said material gain is not his motivation for going into the race, but the desire to uplift the living standards of the people, who have for long been yearning for balanced development.

He said: ” If given the opportunity to serve as governor of Lagos State, we will track accountability by creating a platform to engage with the people through a radio programme to discuss projects and how to implement them
“People will be accommodated in the administration, which will offer voices for residents across the state to express their minds on how they desire to be governed. I shall render count to the people because that is the primary purpose of being in office. Good governance is about the people
“We shall count on the feedback from the people as the cardinal strategy of our programmes and policies. We shall embark on a tour of different parts of the state to identify areas needing attention. That way, we will understand the multiple needs of the people of Lagos and create an inclusive mechanism to govern the state.”

Rhodes-Vivour promised to block identifiable leakages and bring down the cost of project construction across the state as part of the social contract with the people of the Centre of Excellence.

He said: “We hope to develop a multi-modal transport system to reduce the over four trillion naira lost to people affected by traffic. People of Lagos need to be much more productive if the issue of traffic congestion is addressed frontally. We will push for less suffocation taxation, affordable housing and put the people as the centre of the structure/ system of governance.”

He said if elected as governor, he will introduce a rotational governance structure and work with the local government council to identify priority projects for the people of the state.
